13th Thessaloniki International Book Fair

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the 13th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki, held from May 12th to May 15th, 2016, at the Helexpo Exhibition Center (Pavilion 13, stand 85). The 13th Book Fair was dedicated to the "Refugees, then and now". The Country of Honor was Russia.

The Institute holded three parallel events:

On Thursday, May 12th, 18:00-19:00, at the William Shakespeare Room (Pavilion 15), an event entitled "From the Beginnings of the Modern Greek Literature to the Modern Greek Enlightenment: the Institute's Publications", in which G. Kechagioglou, professor emeritus at the A.U.Th. and member of the Institute's Board of Directors, and T. Kaplanis, assistant professor at the School of Philology, A.U.Th., presented the Institute's series "Earlier Texts of Modern Greek Literature".

On Friday, May 13th, 18:00-19:00, at the Literary Cafe (Pavilion 13), an event entitled "The Prehistory of the Greek Language and Indo-European Linguistics through the Institute's Publications", in which G. Giannakis, professor at the School of Philology, A.U.Th., and G. Papanastassiou, associate professor at the School of Philology, A.U.Th., discussed three of the Institute's publications:  R. S. P. Beekes, Comparative Indo-European linguistics: an introduction, G. Giannakis, The Indo-Europeans: language and culture, and M. L. West, Indo-European poetry and myth.

Finally, on Saturday, May 14th, 19:00-20:00, at the Presentation Hall "Aristotle" (Pavilion 13), the book of the Minister of Justice, Transparency and the Human Rights, professor at the Faculty of Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and member of the Institute's Board of Directors, N. Paraskevopoulos, The bees and the wolves: Studies in the history of Greek law, was presented for the first time. The panel consisted from the following speakers: M. Giouni, professor at the Faculty of Law, Democritus University of Thrace, D. Tsourka-Papastathi, historian of Law,  A. Kaidatzis, assistant professor at the Faculty of Law, A.U.Th., and the author. Coordinator: G. Papanastassiou, director of the Institute.
