14th Thessaloniki International Book Fair

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the 14th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki, hold from May 11th to May 14th, 2017, at the Helexpo Exhibition Center (Pavilion 13, stand 100). The 14th Book Fair was dedicated, among others, to the European South, to N. Kazantzakis and to the Cultural year Greece-China.

The Institute also held four parallel events:

On Thursday, May 11th, 19:00-20:00, at the "Kazantzakis" Room (Pavilion 13), an event entitled "The translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey by N. Kazantzakis and I. Kakridis: a philological and historical perspective", in which St. Matthaios, assistant professor at the A.U.Th. and member of the Institute's Board of Directors, refered to these famous translations, edited by the Institute.

On Saturday, May 13th, 11:00-12:00, at the "Notos" Room (Pavilion 13), an event entitled "Stands and turning points in the course of Cypriot Literature 1960-2000" (in collaboration with the Hellenic Authors' Society). Speaker: A. Ziras, ex-president of the Hellenic Authors' Society, Coordinator: G. Kechagioglou, professor emeritus at the A.U.Th. and member of the Institute's Board of Directors.

On Saturday, May 13th, 12:00-13:00, at the "Notos" Room (Pavilion 13), an event entitled "Emm. Kriaras website of the Institute: Library and archive" (in collaboration with Stavros Niarchos Foundation), where records from Kriaras' library and archive were presented for the first time. Speakers: G. Papanastassiou, E. Polyzogopoulou, A. Chouchoulidaki and St. Amanatidis.

Finally, on Saturday, May 13th, 13:00-14:00, at the "Ioannou" Room (Pavilion 15), an event entitled "Cretan views of the Far East: Kazantzakis and China". Speaker: G. Kechagioglou, professor emeritus at the A.U.Th. and member of the Institute's Board of Directors.
