As M. Triandaphyllidis characteristically mentions, the compilation of an anthology of proverbial phrases, both historical and literary, was his dream ever since he was at school. With this publication, he wanted to fill a gap in Greek education and produce an instructive, original and innovative textbook, which, though intended mainly for advanced students of secondary education, is aimed at anyone who wishes to discover the wealth of this aspect of the Greek language. The four parts of the book contain ancient, medieval, ecclesiastical and Modern Greek proverbial phrases. The book also includes an appendix with Latin proverbial phrases, and an index. The Ancient Greek proverbial phrases are followed by their translation in Modern Greek.
