Μορφολογία των τουρκικών δανείων της ελληνικής γλώσσας [The morphology of Turkish loans in the Greek language]
P. Kyranoudis
The book aspires to fill existing gaps in the study of Turkish loans in the Greek language, having two main research objectives: the examination of these loans' morphological adaptation and the description of the derivational morphemes borrowed from Turkish. Investigation is not limited to Standard Modern Greek, but extends to diachronic, inter-dialectal, and stratificational aspects as well. The diachronic study involves Greek and Turkish linguistic data that span the entire period of the approximately eight centuries of Greek-Turkish contact. The inter-dialectal study is mainly concerned with the Turkish loans in the idioms of Northern Greece and in the Pontic dialect. The study of the derivational morphemes borrowed from Turkish is correlated with the use of language by various social groups, determined on the basis of features such as gender, social class, age, education, descent etc.. For several of the phenomena examined, a comparative study of the Turkish loans in the Balkan languages is attempted. Finally, the book offers answers to several issues regarding the etymology of Turkish loans in the Greek language and in its idioms.
