Ομήρου Οδύσσεια [Homer’s Odyssey]
R. Kamarianou-Vassiliou
This book is intended for intermediate and advanced learners of Modern Greek. In addition to offering language practice and vocabulary enrichment, it aims to provide readers with information about Greek mythology and the ancient Greek world and civilization, as well as arouse students’ interest in other works of the Ancient Greek literature.
The book contains the 24 rhapsodies of Homer’s Odyssey, given in summary fashion and in as simplified a form of Modern Greek as possible. As far as structure is concerned, the original series of events in each rhapsody is maintained. However, this is a simplified version of Odyssey’s story, without its dialogic parts, and deliberately omits a lot of elements for the sake of brevity. Each rhapsody is accompanied by vocabulary, reading comprehension exercises, and oral and written exercises. The key to these is provided at the end of the book.
The author has taught Modern Greek as a second/foreign language at the School of Modern Greek Language, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and is actively involved in the writing of related teaching textbooks.
