This Platonic dialogue is a work of philosophical thought, and, at the same time, an excellent work of literature. As a work of philosophy, it raises the issue of upbringing and criticizes the teachings of Sophists and the methods they used in their quest for truth. It also examines the main topic of platonic philosophy, the definition of virtue. As a work of literature, this text is unrivalled. The translator, as he himself notes, wanted to present the interpretative approach of a classical philologist and not that of a philosopher, seeking to translate the unrivalled platonic discourse into Demotic in order to offer contemporary Greeks the opportunity to enjoy the text. The book includes the ancient text and its translation in facing pages, an extensive introduction, commentary and a table of people and places containing illuminating information. Ilias Spyropoulos is a classical philologist.
