12th Thessaloniki International Book Fair

Presentation of the book "Α. Δελμούζος, Ανάλεκτα [A. Delmouzos, Analects]"

The Society for the Study of Modern Greek Culture and General Education (Founder: The Moraitis School), in collaboration with the Institute of Modern Greek Studies (Manolis Triandaphyllidis Foundation) holded a one-day symposium entitled ‘Language is only the medium’, in which Giorgos Kechagioglou, Professor Emeritus at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and member of the Institute's Board of Directors, gave a speech entitled “‘... And all together, step by step, to the unattainable peak...’. From the visions of ascent to the stagger of landing: The Experimental School of the University of Thessaloniki from 1959 to 1965”.

Symposium on "Editing Modern Greek Literary Texts"

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies [Manolis Triandaphyllidis Foundation], Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, organized a one-day Symposium under the title “Editing Modern Greek Literary Texts”, to be held on April 27th, 2015 in Thessaloniki (Aristotle University, Basement of the New Building of the Faculty of Philosophy, Amphitheater of the Cast Museum).

The Symposium was dedicated to the memory of Eleni Pachini-Tsantsanoglou (1937-1995) and George P. Savidis (1929-1995), two distinguished editors of Modern Greek literary texts, who, despite their premature death, left behind a legacy of exceptional quality and impact. Both editors were not only extremely successful teachers and researchers at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (the former in the period 1966-1990, the latter in the years from 1967 to 1983), but they also developed close ties with the Institute of Modern Greek Studies and its work: G. P. Savidis as a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors, and Ε. Tsantsanoglou through a postgraduate scholarship in her memory, granted by the Institute in collaboration with the Department of Medieval and Modern Greek Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, following the donation of Kyriakos Tsantsanoglou, a former member of the Institute’s Board of Directors.

Participation in the 36th Annual Meeting of the Department of Linguistics

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies was represented with 8 papers at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Department of Linguistics, School of Philology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. This year’s Annual Meeting focused on Greek Dialectology, and the conference took place in Thessaloniki on April 24-25, 2015. 

Supporting the 1st Language Competition LexiGame

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies supported the "1st Language Competition LexiGame", which was a great success, on March 8th, 2015 at the 1st Pilot High School of Thessaloniki "M. Andronikos". 15 schools from Central Macedonia, with approximately 100 students of grades A and B, took part in the competition. 

Supporting the 2nd International Conference of Albanian-Greek Studies

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies supported the 2nd International Conference of Albanian-Greek Studies, "Diachronic and Synchronic Dimensions of Cultural Interaction between Greeks and Albanians", which was held at Tirana, 27-28 March 2015. 

Gold Medal by the Academy of Athens

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies (Manolis Triandaphyllidis Foundation) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has been awarded the Gold Medal, the highest distinction offered by the Academy of Athens, for its contribution to the language and education of the Greek people for the past fifty five years.

The award ceremony was held during the formal sitting of December 19, 2014 at the Ceremony Hall of the Academy, and the Gold Medal was received by the President of the Institute’s Board of Directors, G. M. Parassoglou, Professor Emeritus at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Christmas Book Bazaar 2014

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies organized a "Christmas Book Bazaar" on December 16th, 17th and 18th, 2014 (10:00-15.00), at the New Building of the Faculty of Philosophy. Recent and older publications were available to all the members of the university community at special prices.

3rd Book Bazaar (Helexpo)

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the "Book Bazaar" organized by the Northern Greece Publishers' Association, from October 23rd until November 18th, at the entrance of the Helexpo Exhibition Center in Thessaloniki.

Symposium on "Greek language and spoken communication"

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies organized a two-day Symposium on "Greek language and spoken communication", which was held on 18-19 September 2014, in the framework of the research project Greek talk-in-interaction and Conversation Analysis.

21 papers were presented, examining pragmatic and sociolinguistic aspects of Modern Greek and focusing on its use in communication and, more specifically, in naturally occurring spoken interaction in everyday or institutional contexts. A Round Table entitled "Corpora of Spoken Greek" was also organized.

79th Thessaloniki International Fair, Book Bazaar

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the "Book Bazaar 2014" organized by the Northern Greece Publishers' Association, from September 6th-29th, at the Helexpo Exhibition Center in Thessaloniki (Pavilion 13), in the context of the 79th Thessaloniki International Fair.

Treasure Hunt «Dictionaries and Spelling»

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies  has supported the program «Lexical and Spelling Awareness», in which the 2nd Elementary school of Edessa and the Elementary school of Panagitsa participated, in collaboration with the school counselors of the 1st and 2nd Primary Education District of Pella, Ms. Taris and Mr. Faniopoulos, and Ms. Vaso Melekidou, associate of the Institute.
