16th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the 16th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki, hold from May 9th to May 12th, 2019, at the Helexpo Exhibition Center (Pavilion 13, stand 89). The 16th International Book Fair was dedicated, among others, to Manolis Triandaphyllidis, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of his death.

In a specially designed area of Pavilion 15 a photo exhibition, with material from the rich Manolis Triandaphyllidis's Archive, presented his life and work. In the same area, and for the duration of the Book Fair, there was also a consecutive presentation of three documentaries about Manolis Triandaphyllidis (two from ERT, 1983, and one from Cosmote TV, 2017).

The Institute also holded two parallel events:

On Sunday, May 12th, 10:00-12:00, Pavilion 15 (Kostis Moscov Hall), an event in honor of Manolis Triandaphyllidis: “Manolis Triandaphyllidis, 60 years from his death”. Speakers:

  • Chr. Charalambakis, Professor of Linguistics, Emeritus, N.K.U.A., and
  • D. Koutsogiannis, Professor of Linguistics, A.U.Th.
  • Coordinator: G. Papanastassiou, director of the Institute.  
  • A film presentation about the life and work of Manolis Triandaphyllidis followed.

On Sunday, May 12th, 17:00-18:00, Pavilion 15 (Kostis Moscov Hall), a presetnation of two forthcoming dictionaries: P. Chantraine, Etymological Dictionary of Ancient Greek: Word History, and I. Stefanis, Holy and Unholy in Modern Greek: A Dictionary of Religious Terminology.  Speakers:

  • D. Christidis, Professor of Classical Philology, Emeritus, A.U.Th.,
  • G. Papanastassiou, Associate Professor of Historical Linguistics, A.U.Th.
