The Institute of Modern Greek Studies of A.U.Th. organizes a series of three lectures, open to the public, on March 29, May 3, and June 7, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at the Municipal Library of Thessaloniki (27, Ethnikis Aminis Str.) and online.

The lectures are as follows:

  • March 29, 2023, 7:00 p.m., G. Papanastassiou, Professor of Historical Linguistics at the A.U.Th., Director of the Institute, "Indo-European linguistics: a science almost unknown in Greece";
  • May 3, 2023, 7:00 p.m., G. Kechagioglou, Professor Emeritus at the A.U.Th., Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute, "How we publish Modern Greek literary texts, older and recent";
  • June 7, 2023, 7:00 p.m., V. Kalfas, Professor Emeritus at the A.U.Th., Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute, "The ancient Greek philosophers and us".

In the first lecture (March 29, 2023, at 19:00), G. Papanastassiou will discuss the discipline of Indo-European linguistics and its findings regarding the relationships between Indo-European languages. He will present the reasons that have led us to the conclusion that these languages are related to each other, as well as examples that document this relationship and the inclusion of Greek in the specific language family.
