10th Thessaloniki International Bookfair

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies participated in the 10th Thessaloniki Book Fair, which was held from May 16th to May 19th, 2013, at the Helexpo Exhibition Center in Thessaloniki (Pavilion 13, stand 52). The 10th Thessaloniki Book Fair was dedicated to the poet C. P. Cavafy, commemorating the 150th anniversary of his birth.

The Institute also holded two parallel events:

On Saturday, May 18th, 10:00-11:00, at the C. P. Cavafy venue (Pavilion 13), a speech by G. Kechagioglou, professor of Modern Greek Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, entitled «Cavafy, language, Greek language question».

On Sunday, May 19th, 16:00-17:00, at the Takis Doxas Presentation Room (Pavilion 15), the presentation of the Institute’s edition of professor M. L. West’s book entitled Indo-European Poetry and Myth. The book was presented by G. Giannakis, associate professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and editor of the book’s Greek translation, and G. Papanastassiou, the director of the Institute.

In addition, on Sunday, May 19th, 13:00-15:00, at the Thematic Exhibition Area (Pavilion 13), D. N. Maronitis, emeritus professor at the A.U.Th. and former member of the Institute’s Board of Directors, was honored by the Municipality of Thessaloniki. Speakers: G. Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloniki, G. Milopoulos, Rector of the A.U.Th., I. Naoum, Lecturer at the A.U.Th., V. Kalfas, Professor at the A.U.Th., A. Stylianou, Assistant Professor at the A.U.Th., G. Papanastassiou, Director of the Institute, St. Petsopoulos, publisher. Coordinator: G. Kordomenidis.
