"Diavazo" Contribution to the Book Award

The Contribution to the Book Award for 2010 was given by the «Diavazo» magazine to the Institute of Modern Greek Studies in a ceremony, which was held on 17 May 2011 at the Benaki Museum, Athens.

 

On Tuesday, May 17th, 2011, in the jam-packed amphitheater of the Benaki Museum in Pireos St., the winners of the journal's literary awards were applauded during the award ceremony: Ioanna Karistiani (novel), Christophoros Liondakis and Kostas Mavroudis (poetry), Konstantinos Tsoukalas (literary essay-study), Michalis Gennaris (emerging writer award), Alexandros Isaris (short story-novelette), Andonis Papatheodoulou and Mirto Delivoria (children's book), and Maria Papagianni (literary award for older children's book).

The Institute's award was presented by George Galandis, one of the original publishers of the journal, and was received by the director of the Institute, George Papanastassiou, who, after extending his warmest thanks on behalf of the Chairman and the members of the Board of Directors, as well as the Institute's associates, to the people of the journal, ended his speech saying: "In these difficult times we go through, it is important for foundations, institutes, libraries, official bodies, journals, and, generally, intellectuals to unite our efforts and work together in order to promote the culture of the Greek people by any means proper, which is what the Institute's founder, Manolis Triandaphyllidis, sets as the Institute's goal in his will".
