Manolis Triandaphyllidis / Institute of Modern Greek Studies – 50 years of memory and history

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies organized a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of M. Triandaphyllidis and the foundation of the Institute. The event was entitled «Manolis Triandaphyllidis / Institute of Modern Greek Studies – 50 years of memory and history», and was held on 21st November 2009, at the Old Building Ceremony Hall, Faculty of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

 

The following presentations were made:

G. M. Parassoglou, Professor of Papyrology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Chairman of the Institute's Board of Directors, welcomed the conference guests.

A. Tsatsakou, Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Deputy Rector, delivered a brief welcome address speech.

Emm. Kriaras, Emeritus Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a member of the Institute's original Board of Directors, delivered a welcome address speech and shared his personal memories of M. Triandaphyllidis and of the Institute's first years.

D. N. Maronitis, Emeritus Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and former member of the Institute's Board of Directors, delivered a welcome address speech and talked about previous events organized in memory of M. Triandaphyllidis.

A. Dimaras, historian of education: «M. Triandaphyllidis and education: beyond the language issue». Mr. Dimaras referred to M. Triandaphyllidis' relation to education, focusing on issues not related to the language issue.

G. Kechagioglou, Professor of Modern Greek Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and current member of the Institute's Board of Directors: «The M. Triandaphyllidis Foundation and Modern Greek literature». Professor Kechagioglou focused on some of the Institute's older and more recent publications as well as on publications under preparation regarding Modern Greek literature.

Pavlidou, Professor of Linguistics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and current member of the Institute's Board of Directors: «The 'Greek talk-in-interaction and conversation analysis' research project». Professor Pavlidou presented the project's objectives and focused on how its findings can be fruitfully utilized.

Tzitzilis, Professor of Historical and Balkan Linguistics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and current member of the Institute's Board of Directors: «The 'Ancient Greek dialects' and 'Modern Greek dialects' research projects». Professor Tzitzilis referred to the research in dialectology conducted at the Institute and talked about two related forthcoming publications.
